Celebrate 'National Roadless Recreation Week' with Tennessee Wild on August 14

The week of August 7-15 is National Roadless Recreation Week. To celebrate America's remaining wild and roadless areas and raise awareness about their value, Tennessee Wild is leading an 8-mile hike into the Little Frog Wilderness along the Rock Creek Trail.

Tennessee Wild is grateful for the support we receive from The Wiilderness Society (TWS). Recently, the President of TWS, and fellow Tennessean Bill Meadows penned an OP-ED in the Memphis Commerical Appeal supporting wilderness expansion in the Cherokee National Forest. Tennessee Wild Street Volunteers Wanted

Tennessee Wild just announced a series of 10 hikes to the areas where we are seeking wilderness designation. These outings (hikes) of varying length and difficulty will take place between July and October. The hikes include three backpack trips, four family hikes, a free wilderness photography workshop, and two longer day hikes.

Tennessee Chapter - Sierra Club profiles Tennessee Wild

Over the last year, the Tennessee Chapter - Sierra Club has played an important role in the campaign to protect the Cherokee National Forest. Their members have written letters, hiked in the proposed areas, gone to Washingtion DC to lobby, and staffed exhibits at local farmers markets. Tennessee Wild would like to thank Senator Lamar Alexander and Senator Bob Corker for introducing the Tennessee Wilderness Act of 2010 today on the floor of the US Senate! This bill will protect 19,556 acres of the Cherokee National Forest for both current and future generations.
