In an interview with National Parks Traveler last week, new NPS Director Jon Jarvis goes on the record supporting additional "official" Wilderness areas in our National Parks System. According to Jarvis, "it sets the very highest of land protection within national parks.."

Wilderness enthusiasts are heartened by Director Jarvis' views, as some of our most iconic parks such as Yellowstone and Great Smoky Mountains National Park have no federally designated wilderness, leaving them vulnerable to road construction and other development activities.
